Bosque Film Society
Regular Board of Directors Meeting – Tuesday, December 14, 2021, 5:30 p.m.
Clifton Civic Center, 403 West 3th Street, Clifton, Texas 76634
Attendees: Bryan Davis, Nathan Diebenow (Secretary), Will Godby, Angela Smith (Vice President), Matt Wallace, Miriam Wallace (Treasurer), Brett Voss (President), Simone Voss. Not present: Samuel French.
- Voss called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. and confirmed of the agenda’s posting on the BFS’s website. No citizens were present to comment in open forum. With a motion made by Miriam Wallace and seconded by Davis, the board approved the minutes from the November 2021 meeting.
Miriam Wallace presented the financial report, noting the Society has roughly $5,000 in the bank. B. Voss reported that sponsors gave $450 of the $650 in licensing fees with the Society chipping in $200 for the recent free Halloween film fest. Going forward, the Society will ask sponsors to contribute a flat $150 for each film screened. Should the licensing fees for future films be lesser than the $150 rate, the Society will bank the difference for other film screenings, promotions, and productions.
In old business, B. Voss reported on the “Meet & Greet” for charter members in November 2021. He said the event attracted 63 of the 102 members who socialized at the CLIFTEX before selecting eight films for the Society’s film appreciation nights for 2022. B. Voss recommended that in the future, the Society use a computerized system for recording members’ votes faster, as Matt Wallace originally suggested. B. Voss also recommended the Society purchase its own wireless microphones to improve presentations inside the CLIFTEX. With a motion made by S. Voss and second by A. Smith, the board approved researching and buying a wireless mic system with Matt Wallace’s assistance.
- Voss reported that he pushed back the January 2022 launch of the first BFS newsletter due to holiday time constraints. He encouraged the board members to provide content for it.
- Voss reminded the board that the dates for the two free film screenings for the public in 2022 are February 10-13 (rom-com & musical) and July 7-10 (Clint Eastwood westerns).
- Voss proposed screening “double features” free to the public on one Tuesday every month between the dates of the Society’s own film appreciation nights, which also fall on Tuesday nights. More details will be fleshed out at the board’s next meeting. No action was taken.
- Voss reported that he will meet with the organizers of the Billy The Kid Film Festival in Hico to discuss possibly partnering with the Society and the CLIFTEX in its next festival. The board voiced interest in this partnership as a way to gain experience doing our own film festival in the future.
- Matt Wallace gave an update on the short film project. B. Voss said the short film’s trailer received positive reactions at the “Meet & Greet.” Another idea for future short film projects include ads on movie theater etiquette, which could possibly star students from a local school district.
In new business, the board tabled discussion and action on a proposal to establish a film selection committee and guidelines for selecting films for additional bi-monthly “Art House” film screenings.
B.Voss presented an proposal to match Diebenow’s DVD donations to the Valley Mills Public Library. With a motion by A. Smith seconded by Miriam Wallace, the board approved the Society buying 100 DVDs to match Diebenow’s 100 as the Society’s donation to the VMPL in January 2022.
The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday,
January 11, 2021, at the CLIFTEX.
