Bosque Film Society
Regular Meeting
Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 5:30 p.m.
The CLIFTEX Theatre 306 West 5th Street, Clifton, TX 76634
Attendees: Bill Calhoon, Bryan Davis, Nathan Diebenow (Secretary), Will Godby, Richard Major, Angela Smith (Vice President), Brett Voss (President), Simone Voss. Not present: Megan Major, Matt Wallace, Miriam Wallace (Treasurer).
Smith called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. followed by B. Voss confirming the agenda’s posting. No citizens from outside the membership were present to comment in open forum. The minutes of the February 2021 meeting, with corrections to the spelling of Bill Calhoon’s last name, were approved after a motion by Calhoon, seconded by Davis.
In old business, the group approved a membership drive for new charter members. This charter member drive runs from May 1 to July 31, 2021. The membership fee is set for $30 per person. The membership benefits are first dibs on tickets for the club’s six film screenings a year and a vote on the club’s future bi-monthly film schedules. After this drive for charter members ends, the club will refer to new members as “general members.” The group did not cap the number of club members. The motion on setting the fee and benefits was made by S. Voss and seconded by Smith.
The group tabled action on filling the open board position with Samuel French because he is currently still working on a film project.
The group discussed the club’s first sponsored event. By consensus, the group decided to see whether filmmaker Taylor Sheridan could be available for a Zoom call before we feature his new film THOSE WHO WISH ME DEAD (2021), starring Angelina Jolie, at The CLIFTEX Theatre in May 2021.
In new business, B. Voss said he is preparing an official announcement of the club’s existence. He called for written biographies from the current members for press releases and the website. He also clarified the scope and quality of content for the club’s Facebook page and website after questions from Davis, Diebenow, and Godby. After discussion with S. Voss and B. Voss, Diebenow agreed to work with Calhoon on pieces about Bosque County’s historic picture shows.
R. Major reported that attendance at the CLITEX had been down for the film CHAOS WALKING. The hunch is that the studio had not given it enough publicity. R. Major said he had experimented with advertising this film on Facebook. The members said they had seen the FB ads for it. R. Major added that theater rentals were doing well, and their plan for advertising on the screen before the shows was ready for launch.
The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m. with a motion from Davis seconded by Calhoon.
Presented by Godby and Smith, the group then watched THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946), the second film in the club’s bi-monthly film series.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the CLIFTEX.
