Bosque Film Society
Regular Meeting
Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 5:30 p.m.
The CLIFTEX Theatre 306 West 5th Street, Clifton, TX 76634
Attendees: Bill Calhoun, Nathan Diebenow (Secretary), Will Godby, Megan Major, Richard Major, Angela Smith (Vice President), Simone Voss, Matt Wallace, Miriam Wallace (Treasurer). Not present: Bryan Davis, Brett Voss (President).
Smith called the meeting to order at 5:43 p.m. followed by proof of the agenda’s posting. No citizens from outside the membership were present to comment in open forum. The minutes of the December 2020 meeting minutes were approved after a motion by Matt Wallace, seconded by Miriam Wallace.
The club had no quorum for the regular meeting scheduled for January 2021 as most film society members practiced public health guidelines to protect against the pandemic.
In old business, the members tabled action on holding a membership drive. The motion to table was made by Bill Calhoun, seconded by Simone Voss. The group’s consensus was to delay the membership drive for three months or until after the club attains nonprofit status.
Matt Wallace volunteered to head a working group to discuss content for the club’s website since both it and the Facebook page are operational now. The tentative time for the first Zoom meeting is set for Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 12 p.m. Matt said he would email invites to interested contributors.
In new business, the members tabled action on adding Samuel French as a board member. The group’s consensus was to meet with French first as a guest at a future meeting. An actor with ties to Bosque County, French was not present due to a job on a film. Both B. Voss and Davis have met French before.
R. Major reported that the re-opening of the CLIFTEX Theatre went smoothly. Around 187 people attended the NEWS OF THE WORLD (2020) over the six (6) weekend shows. He also noted The Clifton Record newspaper was mentioned 15 mins. into this Tom Hanks film. Smith suggested producers of films to be shown at the CLIFTEX should be contacted to promote the historic venue and honor their work in the future.
R. Major said some folks who saw the KXXV-TV report about the CLIFTEX’s re-opening attended screenings there for the first time. The report aired on Thurs., Feb. 4, 2021. Smith commented this station based in Waco, Killeen, and Temple covers Bosque County well.
In potential new projects, R. Major noted they are considering plans for renting out the CLIFTEX for various events. In the meantime, they will start booking films to run Fri.-Thurs., with 4 p.m. shows Fri.-Sun. Over Valentine’s Day weekend, CASABLANCA (1942) would be shown.
The meeting adjourned a little after 7 p.m. Presented by Diebenow, the group then watched THE ARTIST (2011), the first film in the club’s bi-monthly film series.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at the CLIFTEX.
