LEGENDS OF THE FALL

“Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness and they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy, or they become legends.”

The Bosque Film Society cordially invites all members as well as those interested in becoming members to attend its monthly members-only FILM APPRECIATION NIGHT AT THE MOVIES featuring the modern classic 1994 western romance film “LEGENDS OF THE FALL” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at The Cliftex Theatre in Clifton with an introductory presentation by Bosque Film Society founding board member and filmmaker-in-residence William Godby.

Directed by Edward Zwick and starring Brad Pitt, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn, Julia Ormond and Henry Thomas based on the 1979 novella of the same title by Jim Harrison, LEGENDS OF THE FALL tells the story of three brothers and their father living in the remote wilderness of Montana in the early 1900s, and how their lives are affected by betrayal, history, love, nature and war.

Colonel William Ludlow (Hopkins) lives in the wilderness with his sons, Tristan (Pitt), Alfred (Quinn), and Samuel (Thomas). Eventually, the unconventional, but close-knit, family encounters tragedy when Samuel is killed in World War I.

Tristan and Alfred survive their tours of duty, but, soon after they return home, both men fall for Samuel’s gorgeous fiancée, Susannah (Ormond), and their intense rivalry begins to destroy the family.

The film’s time frame spans nearly 50 years from the early 20th century – World War I through the Prohibition era and ending with a brief scene set in 1963. Legends of the Fall was nominated for three Academy Awards and won for Best Cinematography.

“She was like the water that freezes inside a rock and breaks it apart. It was no more her fault than it is the fault of the water when the rock shatters.”

Specifically serving its membership, the 2024 Film Appreciation Night At The Movies Series will include upcoming presentations of the 5th Annual Christmas Party featuring Die Hard (1994) Dec. 17 introduced by J Matt Wallace. In addition to refreshments and Christmas treats provided for its members, the Bosque Film Society will be using a real-time voting system allowing members to choose 12 Film Appreciation Night presentations for 2025.

Since this will be a private showing, BYOB will be allowed, and the theatre concession stand will be open for purchases. Although the event will be closed to the public, those wishing to become Bosque Film Society members Tuesday night will be admitted.
