Attendees: Bill Calhoun, Bryan Davis, Nathan Diebenow, Will Godby, Megan Major, Richard Major, Toney Rogers, Angela Smith, Brett Voss, Simone Voss, Matt Wallace, Miriam Wallace.
Brett Voss called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. followed by introductions by individuals present.
B. Voss led discussion on forming a board of directors and working toward creating an official film society. Talk involved the number of board members, inclusion of spouses as board members at the same time, and overall gender representation balance on the board. The consensus was to have 11 board members and allow spouses to be board members as independent individuals.
The group discussed the number of and responsibilities for the board’s officers. The group settled on four positions and duties: president (leader), vice president (membership), secretary (meeting minutes), and treasurer (money handling).
After taking nominations from the floor, the group elected the board’s officers as follows: Brett Voss, president; Angela Smith, vice president; and Nathan Diebenow, secretary. The treasurer position is unfilled.
The remaining individuals –Bill Calhoun, Bryan Davis, Megan Major, Richard Major, Simone Voss, Miriam Wallace– agreed to serve as board members. Will Godby and Matt Wallace asked to be designated as “filmmakers-in-residence.”
After discussion led by B. Voss, the group agreed to designate W. Leon Smith as an honorary founding member. Smith is a former owner of The CLIFTEX Theatre.
B. Voss and M. Major agreed to create and present to the group an official logo for the film society. B. Voss and Diebenow agreed to work on a press release about the group’s formation. Diebenow also agreed to edit the society’s mission statement from the group’s suggestions.
R. Major said they aimed to re-open the CLIFTEX on Friday, November 13, 2020. The new owners took suggestions for movies to screen for the theatre’s re-opening. A family film like “E.T.” was suggested.
R. Major told the group the CLIFTEX would screen R-rated films, with the exceptions of movies featuring overt sexuality, gore, or political topics. He also reviewed discussions with their film distributor about the selection of various film packages available.
The next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at 219 Artisan Market in Clifton.
